Triển Lãm Hình Nghệ Thuật - "MEMORY OF VIETNAM"

WELCOME

The Artistic Photography Association of Northern California (APANC) is proud to present Memory of Vietnam. Even away from country but Vietnam is always in our heart. This exhibit showcases the culture, tradition, history, landmark and daily life of our homeland.
APANC was founded in 1991 in San Jose with 30 members. Over the years, APANC has sponsored several photography exhibits in the region. APANC is a branch of The Artistic Photography Association (APA), based in Orange County. Other branches of APA include Sacramento and Houston chapters.
Memory of Vietnam is a collection of 44 photographs from 9 members of APANC. It is located in two sections of the Cultural Heritage Center, on the fifth floor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, from April 17th to May 31st, 2013.
HIGHLIGHTS
The feature photograph presents a beautiful scene of two young girls in white "Áo Dài" walking in a bamboo garden. Áo Dài is traditional Vietnamese long dress. The image of women dressed in Áo Dài always leaves an impression of elegance and grace. The beauty of young girls in white Áo Dài has been the subject for many poets and writers in Vietnam literature.

This collection showcases some landmarks of the Nguyễn dynasty with mausoleums of Emperor Thiệu Trị, Tự Đức và Khải Định. The Nguyễn dynasty was the last ruling family of Vietnam. Their rule lasted a total of 143 years. Among these landmarks, Tự Đức's tomb features the most beautiful royal architecture of the Nguyễn dynasty.

A set of photographs displays the beauty of pink lotus flower. Lotus is the national flower of Vietnam. It symbolizes the elegance, beauty, perfection and purity. Bathing in the sunlight of the summer, the lotus flower blossoms and its scent lightly spreads in the air around the pond.

Several traditions of our country have been captured in these photographs. Calligraphy has had a long history in Vietnam. It still played an important part in Vietnamese life. In Lunar New Year, people would get a calligraphy with well wishes from Ông Đồ, a skillful calligrapher, hoping they will come true.
